The InBetweeners

Free floating time.

After the end of one novel and before the beginning of another, ideas are so wispy, like tissue paper left to dissolve in water.

And they aren't enough. It's hard to imagine they will stretch to make another book. I've written six novels, but that doesn't matter. Confidence that the next story will arrive, of its own accord and by its own power, waxes and wanes.

Notebooks get filled now. I do tarot readings for my characters, muse on the results. Heaven knows, maybe 10% of what's written down will go further. Just learned that Alan Ayckbourne takes 9 months to create a play, and that's comforting.

Books get read now. My cooking gets better! It's a little harder than usual to accept the 9 to 5.
