Moral Imperative Narrative

Morality needs story. Because it often requires sacrifice and may not reward, imagination compensates. It recites the legend of us as it might be told after we have gone.

And the applause of the also imagined audience, when they hear how much we gave without complaint, is surprisingly motivating.
