Vitae Lampada - A Change of Premise

Now we've been away from the book so long I could just leave out the word change. Who would remember the original premise?

Main Character: Jonathan Knipe. Ex-pastor, ex-husband. He has agreed to meet Trevor at a cricket match. Trevor was a childhood friend, but subsequently the two men went in different directions and (this is the change) Trevor was the initial reason Jon's wife left him. So I've made them opponents, but they are also men who have faced life in two fundamentally different ways. Jon likes to believe in a set of rules and follow them. Trevor is always seeing how far rules can be pushed.

They don't get to spend the match alone. A kid called Todd latches onto Jon at the match and so he's part of their reconciliation. Todd needs help himself; being at the cusp of adolescence he's deciding how he wants to go forward.

On the side there is also members of Jon's former congregation: Fleuretta Hoffman and her mother Grace. I am still working on how they fit in and why they feel such a significant part of the story. But later -- a girl needs her breakfast.
